John Sandle,

Owner & Chief Investigator

John Sandle is a retired police officer, with over 23 years in law enforcement experience. He is a New York State Licensed Private Investigator providing services for private attorneys and is a contractor for Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Wayne and Yates Counties. He is also an approved investigator for the Assigned Council Program in Erie, Monroe, Onondaga, Ontario, Wayne and Yates Counties. John is a member of the New York State Defenders Association. He was a New York State Municipal Police Training Instructor teaching at the Public Safety Training Facility in Monroe County, NY. Where he instructed Impaired Driver Recognition, DWI Detection and Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST), RADAR/LIDAR, Reality Based Training and Firearms.

John enlisted in the United States Air Force (USAF) in 1984, where he served for over 10 years on active duty. While in the USAF, John started his law enforcement career as a Security Police Officer. He was stationed at multiple bases both state side and overseas. John was also deployed to Saudi Arabia during the Gulf War in 1992-93.  After he left the military, with an Honorable discharge, John was hired by the City of Rochester Police Department in 1998.

While employed with the Rochester Police Department (RPD), he worked in the Genesee Section, Tactical Section and the Westside Division. John was involved and participated in conducting criminal investigations, patrol, surveillance, traffic enforcement and quality of life issues. As a member of the RPD, John received the following training and certifications; 2000- Reactive Patrol Tactics. 2001- Impaired Driver Recognition, DWI Detection and Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) and Tactical Warrants and Building Searches. 2002- Conducting Complete Traffic Stops, Field Training and Evaluation, Police Field Training Officer and Building Search Refresher. 2003- General Topics Instructor, Interview and Interrogations and Investigative Enhancement. 2004- Multi Media Instruction and Radar/Lidar Operator. John was recognized and awarded for his hard work and dedication to his job. He received the Rochester Police Department’s Officer of the Month Medal in April 2000 and again in July 2001. John was recognized as the Genesee Section Officer of the Month in April 2000, June 2001 and July 2001. He was awarded 2 Unit Commendation Medals, 12 Excellent Police Service Medals, Good Conduct Medal, 8 Chief’s Letters of Recognition and 2 Captain’s Letters. In 2003, John received a Certificate of Merit for Commitment to Traffic Safety from the Monroe County Traffic Safety Board.

In September of 2005, John made a lateral move to the Town/Village of East Rochester Police Department (ERPD). John was involved and participated in conducting criminal investigations, patrol, surveillance, property clerk, armorer, training officer, background investigations and writing General Orders.  While a member of the ERPD, he received the following training and certifications; 2005- Concealment Techniques and Counter Surveillance, New York State Drug Evaluation and Classification: Pre-School and New York State Drug Evaluation and Classification: Drug Recognition Expert School. 2006- Firearms Instructor and SFST’s Training Update. 2007- New York State Drug Evaluation and Classification Annual Training: DRE Re-Certification, Laser Sight Training and Advanced Firearms Instructor. 2008- Smith & Wesson M&P Armorer, New York State Drug Evaluation and Classification Annual Training: DRE Re-Certification and M26 Advanced Taser & Taser X26 Instructor. 2009- Law Enforcement and Military Armorer Training: Colt M-16/AR-15 Rifle, Reality Based Training Instructor, Radar/Lidar Instructor and New York State Drug Evaluation and Classification Annual Training: DRE Re-Certification. 2010- Smith & Wesson M&P Armorer. 2015- Impaired Driver Recognition, DWI Detection and Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) Instructor. While in East Rochester, John was awarded a Life Saving Medal, Excellent Police Service Medal and received a Chief’s Letter of Recognition. In 2006 and again in 2010, John received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Monroe County Executive for his enforcement of DWI Laws and commitment to STOP-DWI.

Because of John’s training and certifications in traffic enforcement, he has had the opportunity to be involved in over 1,000 Driving While Intoxicated and Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs cases. He has testified on a majority of these cases and has been recognized as an expert witness in the Towns of East Rochester, Manchester and Victor Courts, City of Geneva, Monroe and Ontario County County Courts along with the 7th Judicial District.

John has also pursed additional civilian training and certifications. He currently holds and has received the following certifications through the National Rifle Association (NRA); 2007- NRA Certified Instructor, Home Firearms Safety Instructor and Certified Pistol Instructor. 2008- NRA Personal Protection in the Home Instructor, NRA Basics of Personal Protection Outside of the Home Instructor, NRA Advanced Personal Protection Outside of the Home Instructor and NRA Range Safety Officer.
